IBM's plans include the design and marketing of "pre-architected, snap-together solutions for key industries." These systems will be based on x86 hardware running either Linux or Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 and software for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemistry, and computer aided engineering. IBM is also working with Microsoft to provide finance professionals with a system capable of processing complex Excel 2007 worksheets more quickly. The strategy also includes a plan to encourage existing partners to develop cluster-based software, and the provision of 'test drive' facilities where potential customers can trial applications on 20,000 or more processors.{moscomment}
