The new software will allow Google Gadgets to appear alongside other portlets. IBM and its partners already offer a wide range of portlets for WebSphere Portal covering functions including ERP, knowledge management and CRM. "Google's portfolio of gadgets accessed and managed seamlessly within WebSphere Portal provides an extensive set of services for reuse in user-created situational applications," said Larry Bowden, IBM Lotus vice president of portals and web interaction services. Marissa Mayer, Google vice president, search products and user experience, commented "Mashup-style applications offer great opportunities for small businesses to target." IBM Portlet for Google Gadgets will be available in April 2007. In related news, IBM also announced the planned release of a sitemap utility for WebSphere Portal that will allow external search engines to provide more effective search of portals. The software will be released later in 2007.{moscomment}
