The Guitar Hero franchise is moving into the 80s - but only for PlayStation 2, Activision has announced.
Developer Harmonix is apparently close to completing work on Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s as it is listed for a July 24 release by Amazon. Activision is merely referring to a northern summer debut.

Of the 30 tracks promised, Activision has revealed just seven so far:
I Wanna Rock (Twisted Sister)
I Ran (Flock of Seagulls)
Round and Round (Ratt)
I Want Candy (Bow Wow Wow)
Metal Health (Quiet Riot)
Holy Diver (Dio)
Heat Of The Moment (Asia)

The announcement says the guitar game will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 2, but it's hard to imagine that an Xbox 360 version has been completely ruled out.

"The 80s features an amazing variety of rock genres from hair metal to punk to new wave, and our dedicated Guitar Hero fans will definitely appreciate the opportunity to play all the new and exciting content we've added," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at Activision's RedOctane operation. "As we delve deeper into the history of rock, we'll continue to offer a fresh experience and even more explosive tracks with the Guitar Hero franchise."

This is likely to be the final Guitar Hero chapter from Harmonix, which is now owned by MTV and has recently announced Rock Band, a competing game to be published by EA in time for the Christmas buying season.{moscomment}
