The Long Island based politician, Jeffrey Toback, claims that ads promoting child porn come up as a result some searches on the Google search site. He claims that Google "continues to put its economic gains ahead of the interests and wellbeing of America's children" in the suit. Google has a service called SafeSearch designed to filter out pornographic content and the company has defended itself saying it is proactive in prohibiting and removing it from its products. Critics of the Toback lawsuit say Google has been unfairly singled out, pointing to the fact that neither Yahoo nor Microsoft who have similar search products and significant market shares in the search space were named. Critics also point to the fact that Toback has lodged his crusade in an election year and that legislation has existed for 10 years that would absolve Google from responsibility from the claim. {moscomment}
