SCOPE intends to analyse these requirements and extend the carrier-grade Linux operating system profile with additional features required by network equipment providers. The outcome of this analysis will be published in an upcoming version of the SCOPE Linux profile. Magnus Karlson from Ericsson, a member of the SCOPE Alliance board said: "A carrier-grade Linux distribution with this prioritised functionality and roadmap will lead to increased use by network equipment providers and independent software vendors. This will in turn result in accelerated feature availability, meaning it is more likely to be utilised by the world's leading equipment providers, such as Ericsson when developing platforms for network elements. "Publishing the profile as scheduled is further proof that the world's leading network equipment providers are serious about using the SCOPE architecture in their control-plane products." The Linux profile is available immediately and interested parties can view and download this paper at the document area of the SCOPE Alliance website www.scope-alliance.org. The SCOPE Alliance is an association of network equipment providers set up in January 2006 with the aim of accelerating the deployment of carrier grade base platforms based on commercial off the shelf hardware and software building blocks for service provider applications and to promote interoperability.
