MSN Spaces, the web site that lets users create their own web sites and blogs, has been given a facelift and relaunched as Windows Live Spaces, essentially Microsoft's answer to social networking sites like MySpace and Friendster.

A visit to the Windows Live Spaces site will show that it is supported by advertising like other Windows Live services, such as Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger. Advertising has now been recognised by all the major internet players as the online revenue model going forward.

One of the features of Windows Live Spaces is its integration with other products in the Live stable, such as chatting with other Live Spaces visitors using Windows Live Messenger.

Users can personalise their pages using a range of page themes and "gadgets", such as news feeds, weather forecasts and simple games.

Given that new US laws will probably preclude minors from using Live Spaces at school or public libraries, Microsoft has already moved to put in tight security features aimed at protecting children from online predators. {moscomment}
