Since being acquired by Indian industrial conglomerate the Tata Group, VSNL is rapidly become a major force on the global communications scene. In 2005 it acquire an extensive submarine cable network, the Tyco Global Network, and earlier this year Canada's former international carrier, Teleglobe. In June this year VSNL launched a global ethernet private line service connecting major cities throughout North America, Europe, Asia and 120 cities in India using a SDH/SONET platform to ensure low latency and jitter and high reliability, complementing its ethernet over MPLS service. According to VSNL, this service "enables enterprises to economically extend their local area networks to support global video, voice and data transport and to securely and seamlessly send point-to-point traffic between destinations across the world". The service, dubbed 'Dedicated Global Ethernet' offers bandwidth between 2Mbps and 1Gbps with the flexibility to upgrade the bandwidth on an as-needed basis without service interruption.{moscomment}
