What is a Joomla day? How come it lasts for less than 4 hours?  Welcome to planet Joomla!  For the uninitiated, Joomla is the open source content management system that just happens to be the platform of iTWire. Every now and then the Joomla development team host a day, which could be called a real world gathering of many like minded soles orchestrated to discuss their favorite topic - Joomla.

Held on the 24th of January 2007, this time it was the turn of Melbourne to host the first Joomla day in Australia.  Melbourne could be considered the birth place of Joomla's open source ancestor Mambo.

55 Antipodeans came from far and wide to discuss, share, get contacts and learn from others involved with the intricacies of their chosen open source project.

Much of the work and relationships in the open source world are virtual and the chance to put a face and a real world presence to them is rare. The importance of real world contact is often down-played in the internet world.  So attending a Joomla day or an any other open source user event should not be missed.

For those who may not be aware of this fact, iTWire, which has more than 8000 articles on its site, as well as being an extremely useful technology information repository, is one of the largest and most visited Joomla sites in the world.{moscomment}
