LAUNCH VIDEO: Jaybird RUN, the freedom of true wire-free sport headphones for runners

Sport headphone pioneer Jaybird has released its first new completely wire-free sport headphones, dubbed Jaybird RUN, designed specifically for runners.

Whether you’re a runner or not, Jaybird’s new wireless headphones are surely destined to become a runaway hit.

A full, fun video from the global launch party, held in Australia, and hosted by Mike Goldberg, is available to watch in full at the end of the article.

Given there’s no more wire connecting both headphones and going around the back of your neck, Jaybird explains its new RUN headphones offer “a radically freeing experience to runners".

Taking meticulous care to design and craft a set of headphones from insights “gained from top runners around the world, Jaybird RUN delivers a secure, run-specific comfort-fit, sweat proofing, water resistance and skip-free customisable sound.”

Naturally, the company proudly boasts that “all this performance is packed in a beautifully designed, wire-free, lightweight and compact form factor that provides 12 hours of portable battery life with the included charging case".

The battery life claim is that “both deliver four hours of music on a single charge, and the pocket-sized charging case provides an additional eight hours, for a total of 12 hours of portable battery life".

In addition, “a quick, five-minute charge gives you one hour of play time, so you never have to hit the trail or pavement without your music".

Of course, these headphones allow you to make and receive calls, too, while an app delivers audio customisability, so you can pump up the bass, crank up the treble, and never miss a call.

Jeff Taylor, Jaybird Athlete and Partnership manager, said: “Jaybird RUN is inspired by our athletes, and tested and built with the runner in mind who listens to music or podcasts and wants to feel as free as possible.

“Being runners ourselves, we understand how bulky headphones can get in the way. The Jaybird RUN compact form factor fits securely and delivers music without a single wire. We’ve perfected the Jaybird RUN experience, so you'll forget you're wearing them, and we’re excited to share them with runners everywhere.”

As you’d expect, Jaybird explains that “RUN features the latest in true wireless Bluetooth technology, offering big, rich sound with drop-free connectivity in a stylish, low-profile design".

“Jaybird RUN comes with a selection of interchangeable tips and fins for different ear sizes, so you're sure to get the perfect secure and comfortable fit. Its double hydrophobic nano coating protects your headphones from sweat and water damage.

“One intuitive control-button takes calls, starts and stops music, skips tracks and activates Siri or Google Assistant. It's even designed for one-ear use, so runners can listen while staying aware of their surroundings.”

Timothy Olson, Jaybird athlete and two-time winner and record holder of the Western States 100 Mile race, said: “Music fuels my run.

"I have my race playlists and they power me on the trail. In the past, cords have always gotten in my way or snagged on bushes and trees. Jaybird RUN headphones are the perfect way to bring music with me. It's amazing to run with complete freedom and no wires, and the fit is so comfortable and secure that I never worry about losing them."

We’re also told that Jaybird RUN lets you have “your music your way”, thanks to the aforementioned app control.

“Customise the sound signature with the free Jaybird App by adjusting the lows, mids and highs for a truly personalised music experience”, with the app available on iOS and Android.

And if you misplace your earbuds, the Jaybird App “can also help you locate your headphones with the Find My Buds feature, in case they go missing,” and the app even allows you to share Spotify running-themed playlists with the Jaybird community!

Jaybird RUN headphones come in two colors: Drift (white with silver metal accents) and Jet (black with silver metal accents).

Jaybird RUN True Wireless Sport Headphones are expected to be available in stores from 25 September, and can be pre-ordered beginning today from select retailers including www.jaybirdsport.com and JB Hi-Fi. The suggested retail price of RUN is $249.

Jaybird is also launching FREEDOM 2 with SpeedFit, which it calls “an evolution in fit and comfort".

FREEDOM 2 is a “redesign of its award-winning, ultra-small Freedom headphones for greater comfort and an improved fit".

We’re told that FREEDOM 2 with SpeedFit offers “the same incredible, customisable sound you've come to expect from Jaybird, but with an even better fit thanks to softer and more flexible combined tips and fins and SpeedFit, an integrated cord management system".

Jaybird said this redesign was also done by “responding to input from our athletes and fans, it's now easier than ever to switch from the under- to over-ear configuration, lifting the cord off the back of your neck to deliver a secure fit with complete freedom. The combined tips and fins also make it quicker to get a customised fit".

Promising “the smallest form factor on the market”, Jaybird naturally says “FREEDOM 2 is perfect for those with smaller ears or anyone looking for low profile, lightweight, sweat-proof and water resistant headphones with up to eight hours of on-the-go playtime".

The RRP for Freedom 2 is $229, with the same on-sale dates and retail locations as for the Jaybird RUN above.

All you need to do is to choose which one you’ll run to, and which one you’ll run off with!
