Kogan enters smart home market with SmarterHome heaters

Online retailer Kogan.com's latest brand is SmarterHome, and it has been launched with a pair of app-controllable panel heaters.

With the season in mind, the first two Kogan SmarterHome products are both panel heaters.

The 1500W model initially costs $99, while the 2000W version (pictured) is $129.

Both are controllable via Wi-Fi from the Kogan SmarterHome app for iOS and Android, for example to turn on or off at certain times of the day or according to the temperature. According to the app descriptions, both versions support voice control via Amazon Echo and Google Home, but there's no mention of Siri.

The app includes a "Back Home" command that can adjust any or all of the SmarterHome devices in the premises to the owner's desired settings with a single action.

The same app will also control forthcoming SmarterHome products. Kogan plans to introduce smart mains plugs, light globes, portable air conditioners and others during the year.

"Smart home technology is the future of simplifying our lives and now we get to help bring that future into the homes of more Australians," said Kogan.com director of exclusive brands, Sergiy Bobrovnychyy.

"Developing this technology hasn't just been about making it more affordable. We've worked hard to ensure the entire Kogan SmarterHome experience is very simple.

"There's no point having cool technology if it's a pain in the neck to use. Our SmarterHome range is smarter, easier and better value. This is all part of our mission to make the most in-demand products and services more affordable for all Australians."

RECOVERING FROM RANSOMWARE

Ransomware is a type of malware that blocks access to your files and systems until you pay a ransom.

It quickly affected many systems with hackers requiring users to pay money for the decryption keys.

Find out how one company used backup and cloud storage software to protect their company’s PCs and recovered all of their systems after a ransomware strike.
